The Justice album is amazing, simply put.
† is like a throwback to Daft's Homework, if you crammed everything into the mid-ranges and made it louder than all music ever created. I remember describing their EP to Walker: "the thing is just so damn cool sounding!" Justice certainly doesn't let you down on the coolness factor with † - from the ever-badass opening beats of "Genesis" to the infectious "D.A.N.C.E." to the head-nod inducing "DVNO." I'm listening to it the third time through as I write this and I got the album at around 4:30 today. And yes, I did eat, and I actually watched a movie (well, most of one anyway) with Allyson. But I'll cram it into my schedule everyday until the CD rots - it's actually that good. † embodies an unbridled enthusiam for music-making - you can just see the duo sitting in a basement somewhere in France dropping beats with huge, beaming smiles on their faces.
The album whisks you along on a roller-coaster; the slow ending of "Let There Be Light" holds you in a freeze-frame on the crest of a hill where you can pause for a split second to enjoy the feeling of weightlessness, with your hair in a complete and untamed mess about you. Then the funky jazz of "D.A.N.C.E." slides in as you twist and turn and go upside-down and evenutally come to a stop. But, it would be a grave mistake to think that one of the only breaks in sound on the album means that things are coming to a screeching halt so they can just go soft on you.
I'm not going to beat around any bush - the whole thing feels simply epic. This is the type of album that could go around the world to save the hungry and mend the holes in the ozone layer, all while doing it in super-hero tights and sunglasses. It is that cool, it really is that good, and if you can imagine how much joy you had on your third or fouth birthday, that's †.
